Orthopedic Assessments
•
Detailed history on current injury, previous injuries and participating activities.
• Total body observations and Gait Analysis - observing mechanics, muscle
tone and co-ordination, foot function.
• Test of the joints above and below the lesion site to rule out their
involvement in the injury.
• Functional Assessment - test of the active, passive, and restricted
movements of the joint involved.
• Special Testing - specific tests to identify the exact problem and
condition.
Rehabilitation
• Will incorporate
manual therapy, therapeutic modalities with physical reconditioning.
• All rehabilitation will be aimed towards the individual's daily activities
or sport participation.
• Rehabilitation tools will be incorporated as progress is made to ensure
a gradual but aggressive and active approach to rehabilitation.
• Supportive taping techniques or bracing consultation is available to
promote optimal healing in preparing the client for a safe return to their
activity.
Educational Seminars
• Our therapists
can off educational seminars which tailor specifically to team or client requirements.
• Topics can include issues as prophylactic taping, strength and conditioning,
stretching protocols, and other issues at request.
• Seminars can include both theoretical and practical components.
• The purpose of these seminars is to enhance the knowledge and stress
the importance of physical activity to various sport groups in the region.
Event Coverage
• Therapists can
provide on-field immediate care of athletic injuries.
• The Oakville Sports Medicine Centre customizes an Emergency Action
Plan prior to each event.
• Trained in skills such as: spinal board procedures, applying and measuring
for an appropriate size collar, helmet removal, splinting , acute and chronic
wound care, and dealing with environmental injuries (heat a& cold).
• Highly trained in CPR and First Aid to treat injuries appropriately and safely.
• Able to deal with life threatening emergency situations to ensure appropriate care.
• Work with a variety of athletes from recreational to elite levels.
• Able to make a "return to play" decision based on an on/off field assessment.
• Recognition of neurological dysfunction and the implementation of appropriate
care.
• Utilize therapeutic techniques which incorporate supportive taping
procedures to ensure a safe re-integration to the athlete's sport. |
