The majority of my work focuses on small intimate and highly detailed projects.
Given that many of my clients have contractors in mind prior to starting their
projects, most of my projects have been of a "design and build" nature. This
method does not entail the usual tendering process. The architect, owner and
builder all work together throughout the entire process to bring the project
to a successful conclusion.
Projects I have completed in this manner include colour consulting, a motor
boat interior, a doctor's office, a veterinary clinic and a sports medicine
clinic. Each project had its own unique requirements reflecting the needs
of the clients, but all were completed on time and on budget.
This method of Design & Build has now become my favoured approach
to the type of specialized renovation work I do, especially for residential
work and facilities planning. Since many of the projects are of a smaller
scale, they would most likely not benefit from a full tendering process.
I continue to develop relationships with various contractors and consultants
who embrace this approach, for it makes my work more rewarding, and more productive.
The client also benefits, for they are as integral a part of the process as
the contractor. It is an excellent approach for small detailed projects.
